I was embarrassed by the manner as well as the message that Pres. Bollinger used to introduce Pres. Ahmadinejad when he was a guest at Columbia. Such conduct strengthens the Iranian president in the minds of his supporters and diminishes Columbia as an academic institution. The fact that the head of Columbia attacked and ridiculed a leader of a country with thousands of years of history and culture before the guest spoke was bad enough. To call him a dictator displays gross ignorance of the Iranian political structure and reality. The law school alumni should condemn such conduct and support academic freedom and inquiry. We learn from open discourse with those with whom we disagree.
